Baby Thomas – From 2am Parties to 12 Hours of Sleep
When I met Baby Thomas, he was 6 months old and utterly exhausted—and so were his parents.
Each night had become a marathon. He was waking and staying awake for 2 to 3 hours, and despite all their efforts—rocking, feeding, patting, pacing the hallway—nothing was helping him drift back to sleep. His parents were running on empty and feeling like they were doing something wrong, when in reality, they were doing everything they could.
They were tired, overwhelmed, and desperate for a change.
The Home Visit
I was invited into their home for an overnight visit, which allowed me to observe everything firsthand. More importantly, I could be there beside them—to support, guide, and gently shift the pattern in real time.
Here’s what I noticed:
Thomas was arriving at bedtime overtired due to irregular naps.
He was completely reliant on Mum or Dad to get back to sleep.
The overnight feeds had become habitual—not hunger-based.
A few simple room adjustments (like blackout blinds) would help promote better, deeper sleep.
The Changes We Made
Together, we:
Created a calm, consistent bedtime routine.
Introduced a gentle settling approach so Thomas could learn to fall asleep without being rocked or fed.
Adjusted his daytime schedule to reduce overtiredness.
Gradually weaned the night feeds.
Optimised his sleep environment so it worked for him, not against him.
Throughout the night, I was right there—coaching, reassuring, and holding space for Mum and Dad as they supported their baby through change.
The Result?
By night two, Thomas was settling himself back to sleep within minutes. Within just a few days, he was sleeping 10–12 hours straight every night—and so were his parents.
They’ve since told me they finally feel like themselves again. Evenings are now peaceful, and they wake up rested and ready to enjoy their little boy.
